If you are considering residential carpet or commercial carpet for your home or business, there are several things you should know before you make the investment. Drawing on our deep well of experience, Cadillac Carpet & Flooring is here to provide you with important information about the various types of carpeting.
1. Residential Carpet Doesn’t Fit in Every Room
Residential carpet is a cozy way to outfit your home and it is a great option in family rooms, especially when young children are involved. Still, carpet comes with its own restrictions. For example, we would never recommend that you use carpet in your kitchen for anything more than a water mat below the sink. If a room receives high traffic, it may not be advisable to install carpet in it either. Carpet wears down over time and repairing or replacing carpet can be costly.
2. Match Samples to Your Furnishings
Choosing the right style of residential carpeting is a challenging decision to make. When you are at the flooring store, bring samples of the color of your furniture or ask for carpet samples to match with the furniture and drapes of the room that you are considering installing the carpet in. This small, but simple step can save you a lot of trouble and it will ensure that you are selecting a color that compliments the rest of the room.
3. Get a Quote
When renovating, costs can quickly increase. If you are exploring new residential carpet options, ask your flooring store for a quote. Don’t be afraid to ask for multiple quotes if you are interested in more than one style or color. A carpet is a long-term investment that will last for over a decade and it is important that you make the right decision prior to installation.
4. Understand the Warranty
Hopefully you never have to use your warranty. Manufacturer warranties are all different and you will need to familiarize yourself with the companies you are considering. In addition, follow all of the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning and maintenance guidelines in order to protect yourself from a manufacturer that tries to shift the blame.
5. Carpet Padding Is Important
Residential carpet padding may seem unimportant because you don’t see it, but in reality, it is very important and will help you maintain your carpet. Skimping on your carpet’s foundation reduces its ability to resist general wear and tear. You want your carpet to be firmly installed on the required level of carpet padding.
6. Sun Fades Carpet
If you are thinking of installing your residential carpeting in a room that receives a lot of sunshine, you should know that excessive sunshine can fade your carpet’s natural color. As a carpet absorbs UV rays for years, it will begin to fade and suffer from color loss. Not only does it damage the color, but sunrays also have an effect on the integrity of the carpet fibers. Fixing this damage is incredibly tricky and it is best to avoid installing carpet in a room that is saturated in sunlight if you are worried about this happening.
